Welcome to Eventing at Virginia Tech
Founded in 2015 by a small group of devoted eventers, Eventing at Virginia Tech was formed as a Registered Student Organization at Virginia Tech. The team caters to a dedicated group of riders bringing their own horses to college, but is not limited to those with mounts. Growing from five members in 2015 to around twenty-five this semester, we are not only a competitive team, but also a close-knit group of friends, supporting each other in and out of the tack. The team is open to students in all years and fields of study. Our team puts a great deal of emphasis on education, hosting our own clinics, as well as requiring riders to take lessons. Additionally, we emphasize service, requiring our members to volunteer in the local eventing community to better our sport.
If you are unfamiliar with the sport of eventing, it is an equestrian sport that has its roots in cavalry training tests to prepare horses and riders for battle. It consists of three phases: Dressage, Show Jumping, and Cross-Country. Combined, these phases test the horse and rider's skill, precision, stamina, and teamwork.
